PRIMARY FUNCTION: Fuels Superintendent II supports the Project Manager, General Superintendent or Senior General Superintendent to ensure that company policies and procedures are followed in the field in regard to safety, scheduling, budget, quality and customer satisfaction. The Area Superintendent may be the lead superintendent on small projects or be responsible for a specific area of a larger project.

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: Fuels Superintendent II/SSHO typical responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Directing and coordinating activities relating to construction projects

  • Supervising and supporting site staff in the day to day site management

  • Supervising and controlling the work and progress of subcontractors and Gilbane trades

  • Provide support to management team in proposal and estimate preparation

  • Monitoring and controlling project Safety, Quality, budgets, direct costs and schedules

  • Provide support to management team of the assigned project

  • Preparing project progress and quality reports

  • Support all safety efforts on the project and promote Gilbane Cares safety culture

  • Make recommendations concerning the modification, improvement, or removal of any company equipment, facilities, or machinery that is hazardous to employee safety or health

  • Ensure contractor activities are preplanned for safety through scope review, preconstruction meetings, JHA review, etc.

  • Ensure contractors meet Gilbane Safety submittal requirements

  • Ensure contractor compliance to Gilbane safety plan including but not limited to, safety submittals, training and equipment inspection and other documentation (i.e., Substance abuse testing records, etc.)

  • Ensure project teams perform Safety net inspections per company policy


  • Associate Degree or equivalent is desirable

  • Minimum of 5 years DoD construction-related management

  • Minimum of 2 years of field experience working on DoD POL systems

  • OSHA 30 Hour with 1 year safety experience on similar types of projects

  • Construction Health and Safety Technician credential and advanced safety training, and advanced safety training that meets requirements of EM 385-1-1

  • To meet SSHO requirements, the candidate needs either (a) five (5) years of continuous construction industry safety experience in supervising/ managing general construction (managing safety programs or processes or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls), or (b) five (5) years of continuous general industry safety experience in supervising/ managing general industry (managing safety programs or processes or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls), or (c) if the SSHO has a Third-Party, Nationally Accredited (ANSI or National Commission for Certifying Agencies - NCCA) SOH-related certification, only four (4) years of experience is needed.

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience


  • Strong communication skills required

  • Microsoft Word and Excel skills required
