UnityPoint Health RN - Cardiac Cath Lab in Pekin, Illinois

Under the direct supervision of the Cardiac Cath Lab Lead Technologist and Director of Imaging, and with clinical supervision from the Director of Surgical Services, performs professional duties involved in a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative.

This position is a full-time position that will work 3 days per week in the Cath Lab and 1 day per week in the Stress Lab.

  • Assists the physician by being responsible for adequate drugs and supplies needed for procedures and the administration thereof.

  • Makes regular evaluations of patient status, symptoms, and reactions to treatments, medications, and sensorychanges that occur before, during, and after procedures. Determines progress and problems, takes corrective action as indicated or directed.

  • Controls narcotics and supplies utilizing appropriate documentation.

  • Keeps proper and informative records of patients during procedures including nurse’s notes.

  • Evaluates patient’s pre and post procedures for laboratory results, vital signs, and bodily system.

  • Notifies physician of any unusual laboratory findings.

  • Assists in the education of patient / families.

  • Sets up and uses equipment to obtain cardiac output, contrast injection, temporary pacemaker insertion, monitoring equipment, and oxygen saturation during procedures.

  • Calculates cardiac output and valve surface parameters.

  • Performs venopuncture and insertion of venous catheters.

  • Perform nursing tasks in the Radiology Department, Patient Service Center, Diagnostic Testing Area, or Nursing services.

  • Maintains organization and cleanliness of work area.

  • Performs daily inspections such as refrigerator temperature, crash cart, defibrillator, whole blood oximeter, contrast warmer temperature, narcotics log as appropriate.

  • Monitors for quality assurance of procedures and enviornment.

  • Responds appropriately when alarms sound; silences alarms only as necessary for patient care and returns to audible when done.

  • Functions as hemodynamic tech.

  • Functions as circulating tech

  • Functions as scrub assistant during procedures.

  • EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma, Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

  • LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • State of Illinois RN license

CPR Certification

ACLS Certification

  • EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years of experience as a staff nurse with 1-year experience in either a Cardiac Cath Lab or a critical care setting.

  • SKILLS

  • The ability to perform a variety of activities in an environment characterized by change. Preference for working with ill patients and members of the patient care team.

  • INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

  • Effective interpersonal skills, communication and telephone etiquette, and the ability to function productively as a part of a team during potentially stressful situations. Exhibits excellent guest relations to patients, families, physicians, and co-workers.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT

  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs., carry 20 lbs., stand up to 3 hours, stoop, bend, reach, grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity. Must have the ability to communicate with others. Must be able to push wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, or supply carts. Must be able to position patients for procedures.
