Outpatient Clinical Registrar

UnityPoint Health-Pekin Campus

Shift: PRN As-Needed (Phlebotomy experience preferred)

Summary:

Facilitates processing of accurate information in such a way that 100% of our customers receive quality registration and UnityPoint Health Pekin enjoys the minimum amount of funds in accounts receivable and bad debts are kept at the lowest amount possible.

  • Greets visitors, staff, students, and physicians upon arrival. Direct visitors to desired destination. Coordinate the flow of patients. Answers telephone promptly, directs calls appropriately, and relays messages.

  • System knowledge and support: Current working knowledge of computer software and ability to provide answer upon demand. Able to provide appropriate response to system problems (e.g.: fix or route message to internal or external support technicians, or the help desk) to expedite resolution. This includes the ability to assist in training for all registration and phlebotomy staff to achieve consistency, efficiency, and maintain higher accuracy rates

  • Procedure knowledge: Current working knowledge of billing and reimbursement guidelines including procedure and diagnosis coding, payer specific requirements and fraud and abuse.

  • Documentation and data maintenance: Organization, documentation and maintenance of supporting data in accordance with the policy so that any staff member could understand or trace history to resolve a question or problem on an account. Document all conversations and transactions with customers and insurance's

  • Phlebotomy duties (this includes ordering). Demonstrate proficient in performing technical procedures safely after reviewing hospital and nursing department and unit specific policies and procedures, verifying physician order, validating patient ID, educating patient and families, using PPE and other standard precautions, observing patient privacy, sharps safety and completing documentation.

  • EKG's-Monitor the readings, make sure the machine is attached properly and in working order, records, and report abnormality EKG's immediately

  • Display flexibility in ever changing work environment by committing to provide superior service to new trust partners, exceeding their expectations as well as the performance of competition in our field. This would include research and sharing of specialty-specific registration and billing information with peers so that we all have a consistent understanding of provider unique mechanics. Remain current on all insurance guidelines including authorization and precertification updates. Provide assistance to all registration staff. Maintaining and 98% accuracy rate.

  • Collect copay and estimates. Mat verify insurance company responsible for the payment of services; confirms insurance coverage and receipt of physician order; calls for order if necessary.

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

EXPERIENCE

1-2 years Phlebotomy and Patient Accounts experience desired personal computer experience helpful.

Must be able to communicate effectively with Healthcare team members, outside agencies, and possess telephone etiquette and ability to manage unhappy or angry customers.
