This job was posted by : For more information, please see: Up to 29 hours/week Illinois Central College is seeking a qualified individual to provide reference and circulation services in a combined service desk environment during various day and evening hours at the Banwart Library at the Peoria Campus. Basic Duties:This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Research materials and information via electronic or in-person requests by students, faculty, staff and community patrons.Work with faculty to design library instruction for specialized courses and schedule and conduct orientation classes.Instruct patrons in the use of the library materials and computer systems.Participate in collection development and work with faculty to encourage their participation in the process.Assist users in obtaining materials via intralibrary and interlibrary loan.Assemble data for library reports.Monitor library to ensure a safe and productive environment for library patrons.Provide circulation services which may include communicating policies and procedures, managing fines and fees, and recording library statistics.Maintain library patron records.Process Scantron tests.Participate in professional development opportunities within the college, Reaching Across Illinois Library System and statewide.Knows, understands and acts in accordance with Illinois Central College's Cougar CARE principles, including connects with students, owns the situation, uses opportunities to build relationships, goes the extra mile, acts promptly and professionally and remembers to work as a team.Perform related duties as required. Necessary Qualifications:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Knowledge of:Principles and practices of a librarian.Online computer services and research.Library equipment maintenance.Library circulation systems.Reference and media materials. Ability to:Provide leadership in the library.Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Assist students with library research.Prepare technical reports.Design instructional materials.Troubleshoot library and educational technology problems.Provide collection development for print and media collections.Operate a PC and related software.Maintain effective working relationships with other people. Education and/or Experience:Minimum Qualifications:Master's degree in Library Science or the equivalent combination of education and experience.Desirable Qualifications:One to three years of direct experience; one to three years supervisory experience; using automated library services; teaching and community college experience and strong electronic reference skills.
