Caterpillar Senior Engineer - Electric Drive Systems in Mossville, Illinois

As a Senior Engineer, you will have the opportunity to direct and contribute to the concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes while strengthening your analytical skills and mastery of engineering concepts. You will partner with and provide technical guidance to global teams. This position is within Caterpillar’s Electric Drive Systems team working on advanced powertrain solutions. The incumbent will be focused on simulation of electric drive systems, components and controls.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

**Research and develop new simulation and virtual development tools

**Develop and promote new simulation methods and processes

**Perform virtual development through simulation analysis and validation

  • Sizing of components through application of simulation techniques

  • Simulate and evaluate new components, systems or controls

**Component and system integration and performance analysis

**Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Mechatronics Engineering or a related discipline

  • 3 years working experience

  • Electric drive system and/or component design and development experience

Top Candidates will also have:

**Background and experience with Electro-Magnetic theory and application for electric motor design

  • Deep understanding of system controls theory as applied to electric drivetrains

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering with emphasis on electric drive systems and components

  • Caterpillar systems and product development processes

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Emphasis on initiative and self-starting tasks

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Knowledge of validation and testing of electric drive systems and components

  • Strong proficiency with Matlab / Simulink and Dynasty modeling tools

**Ansys Tools: Maxwell, Simplorer, Fluent, ICE-Pak

  • Electric machine (motor & generator) design and control theory (SR desired)
