Caterpillar, Inc. Performance/Simulation/Application Engineer in Mossville, Illinois
The Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) Cooling Products Simulation and Engineering Analysis team needs a structural analyst to perform simulations; this position will be located in Mossville, IL. Structural analysts are vital to product development by guiding design and providing root cause to resolve field failure issues for both Cooling and Aftertreatment components and systems.
The candidate will use boundary conditions from Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) simulations. The candidate will be familiar with static, vibration, transient dynamic, heat transfer, and thermal stress analysis. Also the candidate should understand boundary and material nonlinear behavior, be able to predict fracture and fatigue life, and evaluate bolted joints and welded structures.
The analyst will determine the root causes of failure and make design suggestions. The analyses are very challenging, involving complex phenomena such as transient thermal effects, engine and machine vibration and forced response, material nonlinearities and exotic materials. Frequent interaction with NPI and CPI teams, the CFD analysis team, and the fatigue and material labs is required. The individual will play a key role in driving towards production readiness in machine and engine programs and developing simulation and accelerated validation technologies.

- BS degree in mechanical, petroleum, marine, agricultural or aerospace engineering or a related engineering fieldandtwo years of industry experience in structural simulation
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
MS or PhD in mechanical, petroleum, marine, agricultural or aerospace engineering
Experience in machine dynamic simulation, nonmetallics, user defined material behavior modeling, and component interaction modeling
Experience in project management
Proficiency with Abaqus and Hypermesh
Experience with fan structural analysis
Experience with Ansys
Experience in machine and structural design and validation
Creo skills sufficient for FE model preparation
Knowledge of finite element theory and the engineering mechanics underlying simulations of static, modal, dynamic, steady state heat transfer and welded structures
Strong initiative, customer focus, excellent teamwork, communication, planning, and organizational skills
