Responsibilities

Summary: Mechanical design engineer with experience and knowledge of Caterpillar engineering standards, systems and processes. This position is within the Electric Drive Systems team working on complex powertrain solutions.

Typical Day

Responsibilities: This is a position in Caterpillar’s Electric Drive Systems Team. This team is engaged in the concept, design, and development of drivetrain systems including mechanical and electric components. This position will be accountable for contributing to the concept, development and design of complex components, subsystems or processes. This position will perform complex analysis work, identify design problems and resolve problems. Responsibilities include working closely with the design team and test engineers to determine component and system configuration, design, detailing and problem resolution. Other responsibilities include working closely with cross function organizations, such as Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Logistics, and Suppliers to develop cost effective designs

Requirements: Qualifications: • Fluent with Pro-E (Creo) solid modeling and drawing tools • Knowledge and experience with mechanical designs, including rotating components • Knowledge and experience with mechanical analysis • Knowledge of validation and testing of mechanical systems • Knowledge and experience with Caterpillar Engineering Standards and Engineering Systems such as EDS / Teamcenter and the drawing releasing process. • Minimum 2 years of work experience in an Engineering field Desired Qualifications: • Transmission design or development experience. • Experience with gear and bearing design and selection. • Knowledge and Experience with DFMEA, APQP, or related quality processes. • Experience with design specification documentation and drawings. • Knowledge and experience in component manufacturing processes • Knowledge and experience in casting modeling and design. • Knowledge of electrical machinery such as motors, generators and power converters. • Experience with automotive, construction, or heavy machinery.

Requires BSME.
