The Engineering Development Program (EDP) is a flexible twelve month program that addresses the onboarding needs of engineers and technologists hired directly into their full time positions.
As an entry level, engineering degreed position, job assignments are planned to provide experience and familiarization with diesel and dual fuel engines and to begin to develop deeper expertise in the simulation of these engines.
The key role of this entry level engineering position is to learn and assist lead engineers in delivering research and advanced engineering projects in dual fuel combustion by working in a larger project team. Tasks will vary in duration and complexity as the engineer develops knowledge and expertise in engine operation, data analysis and simulation.
Key areas of responsibility encountered in this role may include any or all of the following: supporting single cylinder engine testing, analyzing test data to gain deeper physical understanding of dual fuel combustion processes, developing models to capture the physics of dual fuel combustion and implementation of 1D and 3D models within Caterpillar’s simulation tool platforms.

Currently attending a 4-year accredited university/college or have completed a minimum M.S. Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
Expected graduation date: May 2017 - December 2017
Minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0/4.0 (no rounding) at current institution
Previous technical internship, co-op or research experience
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering – specializing in dual fuel (natural gas diesel) combustion CFD or related engine area
Experience performing experiments on internal combustion engines and analyzing engine data.
Formal classes in: Internal Combustion Engines, Fluid Dynamics & Heat Transfer, Computational Fluid Dynamics
Fortran and C/C programming skills
Excellent verbal, written and electronic communication skills
Experience with (any of): Converge, StarCD, or AVL Fire combustion simulation software
