The Product Support and Logistics Division currently has an opening for a Packaging Engineer located in our Morton, IL facility. This role is on the Inbound Logistics Supply Network Planning (ILSNP) Team. This team is part of the America's Transportation group within the Product Support and Logistics Division. It is a cross-functional team of logistics/supply network professionals responsible for identifying the best OPACC logistics supply network solution from supplier to delivery through optimization of inbound logistics parameters This position is for an individual with packaging expertise to help the team identify packaging changes that contribute to lowering inbound logistics supply costs. This packaging engineer will evaluate the packaging strategy (container size/quantity, repack strategy, supplier packaging, etc.) for all inbound supply and work with peers to optimize resulting in the lowest cost supply chain solution. This individual will also work with the Logistics Packaging Team to implement the packaging changes as well as ensure consistency in approach, solutions, and standards. Lastly, the individual must have experience performing the packaging engineer job duties listed below. The packaging design work will be executed by the Logistics Packaging Team, but this individual must be familiar with the process and manage the overall implementation.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

As a Packaging Engineer on the Inbound Logistics Supply Network Planning Team, you use your packaging background to identify packaging changes that contribute to lowering inbound logistics supply costs and collaborate with the Logistics Packaging Team to execute.

  • Liaison of the Inbound Logistics Supply Network Planning Team to the Logistics Packaging Team

  • Identify packaging specifications at the part number level for supply chain improvement

  • Communicate with existing facilities on supplier packaging issues that impact inbound costs (examples: stackability, packaging density, misalignment of lot size with container)

  • Identify opportunities to utilize returnable containers to lower inbound costs

  • Perform cost analysis on current packaging and recommend changes where appropriate to lower inbound supply costs

o Expendable packaging versus returnable container

o Container changes (bulk versus totes)

o Lot size changes and the impact on inventory holding, packaging, and transportation costs

  • Evaluate opportunities where a packaging modification will increase transportation efficiency (examples: stackability, packaging density, misalignment of lot size with container)

  • Coordinate with operations for storage and ergonomic considerations of supplier packaging changes

  • Collaborate with the Logistics Packaging Team to design packaging solutions to lower inbound logistics costs.

  • Collaborate with Purchasing (Buyer) and the Suppliers regarding supplier packaging changes

  • Validate new packaging and containers during pilot phase

  • Lead medium to high risk Green Belt projects with global, network, or product group impact

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree (i.e. Packaging, Chemistry, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering)

  • 3 years of experience in packaging and/or supply chain

  • Experience with data query analysis (i.e. SAS, business objects)

  • Project management experience
