The Role: Xylem Inc. seeks to hire a Sales Project Manager to act as the main Xylem point of contact for our customers (Contractor, Consulting Engineer, End-user) and our 3rd party channel/sales throughout life of project from initial quote through booked purchase order to final customer sign-off and final payment. Based out of the Morton Grove, IL office, the Sales Project Manager twill support sales channels, assist in training external sales personnel, create project master schedules, and travel as necessary to customer job sites for face to face project kick-off meetings and during critical project milestones.

Essential Duties:

  • Prepare accurate written Fire Pump package quotations and submittals from technical specifications received from the field.

  • Supports sales channels with Fire Pump packaged system applications expertise i.e. design, selection, substitution and/or modification.

  • Assist in training external sales personnel on product, application and troubleshooting.

  • Review project documentation (contract, proposal, cost sheets), identify and manage project contractual and/or scope risks and opportunities (terms, margin, schedule, etc.). Negotiate change order amounts and terms.

  • Create project master schedule (i.e., Gantt chart) for all deliverables with customer and agreed to communication protocol, expected turnaround time on deliverables (in writing), and critical success factors on project.

  • Effectively communicate internally with engineering, service, and sales teams, etc., to ensure all departments are aligned and agree to project deliverables.

  • Maintain project schedule throughout life of project, adjust as necessary based on customer driven needs, and set priorities on deliverables internally.

  • Identify and facilitate resolution of customer issues throughout project life cycle.

  • Facilitate customer (e.g. consulting engineer) review and approval of submittals and Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals to keep project on schedule.

  • Accurately forecast project sales (shipments) and execute projects to meet Xylem monthly, quarterly and yearly forecasted goals.

  • Travel, as necessary, to customer jobsites for face to face project kick-off meetings and during critical project milestones (as necessary) to drive customer intimacy.

  • Define, recommend, implement and utilize sound project management principles (PMO), tools, and procedures in the execution of duties, including, but not limited to: project scheduling, contract terms review, documentation control (e.g. approval process), project costing/margins, commercial bonding and insurance certificates, milestone deliverables & invoicing/payments, sales forecasting.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Work with sales and marketing to influence marketplace through white papers, presentations, and case stories at regional/national trade shows and industry conferences.

  • Maintain competitor information for major market segments.

  • Attend trade shows and visit customers to assist and support field sales organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Related Field

  • 3 years’ experience in Applications Engineering or Project Management in and Engineered to Order (ETO) setting

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering specifications and drawings

  • Understanding and experience with Project Management best practices (PMO)

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – written and oral

  • Excellent organizational and task management skills

  • Strong leadership, conflict resolution and negotiation skills

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP certification
